Ms. Lytel serves as Co-Chair of the General/Premises Liability Committee for Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, of which she currently is spearheading the April 10th, "The Latest Developments in the New Howell Paradigm for Evaluating Personal Injury Damages" 2014 Jonathan Beach Club event. The California Supreme Court ruled to limit recovery of economic damages in personal injury cases. In Howell v. Hamilton Meats & Provisions, Inc. (2011) 52 Cal.4th 541, the California Supreme Court established a clear limitation on a plaintiff's potential recovery in personal injury actions. The Court held that a plaintiff whose medical expenses are paid through private insurance may recover as economic damages no more than the amounts paid by the plaintiff or her insurer for medical services.
